Projects
Project Ukraine was an emergency welfare initiative created to address the needs of Ukrainian women in Italy—particularly home care workers—who were directly and indirectly affected by the conflict in their home country.
The project offered practical, psychological, and employment support to individuals who, often through informal networks, took steps to welcome family members and relatives fleeing the war, while simultaneously coping with significant emotional distress and financial hardship.
The project was carried out in the Milan area, in collaboration with the CuraMI & ProteggiMI services and the local support networks.
The project was activeduring the emergency caused by the conflict in Ukraine.
Although it has now concluded, it represented a timely and targeted response during a period of great crisis.
Based on direct feedback from Ukrainian women already receiving care services, the project developed an integrated response to the needs that emerged, with the goal of enabling people tocontinue working, maintain stability, and cope withwar-relatedtrauma.
The main actions included:
In addition to these initiatives, the project has provided opportunities for social interaction and emotional support for the women and children staying at the shelters.
Specifically, the following activities were organized: individual and group psychological counseling; career guidance and job placement assistance; basic language and technical training; administrative support for applications for financial assistance; and recreational activities for women and children.
The Ukraine Projectmade a difference because it responded in a timely, humane, and comprehensive manner to a complex emergency, placing people and their stories at the center. Through active listening, psychological support, job continuity, and practical assistance, the project supported women who found themselves experiencing the trauma of war while continuing to care for others.
The initiative strengthened dignity, autonomy, and resilience, demonstrating how social welfare can be a tool for protection, inclusion, and hope even in the most critical moments.
